      Communications networks

      The network interconnects all multimedia devices, and gives them access to the external Service provider networks.
      The hotel automation system and the hotel network build a bridge between multimedia and controls.

  •   Cable Plant
  •   The cable plant needs to be treated as a building infrastructure system of its own, much like the electrical, plumbing, or heating, venting, and air conditioning (HVAC) system.
      The elements of the cable plant include all of the components required to connect a telephone or a computer back to the appropriate host device in a hierarchical star topology.

    •   Telecommunications Rooms
    •  - Should be secured, illuminated, free of dust, environmentally controlled (air conditioned with own thermostat), and have adequate 230V AC (230 volts of alternating current electrical service) power to support the installed load. TRs must have grounding points consistent with TIA/EIA 607.
        - The main TR or data center is an “Equipment Room” under TIA/EIA 568, sharing the characteristics of TRs, but will hold PBXs, servers, and other equipment as well as wiring and hubs. Ideally, a hotel will have a single secured equipment room housing PBXs, servers, in-room entertainment racks, routers, and the MDF.Rather, place it in a central location to avoid distance limitations.

    •   Backbone
    •   - Maybe either copperor fiber-optic cable. It is run vertically to TRs on each or staggered floors ofthe building. The backbone connects the “house” side of the MDFs to the intermediate cross-connects located in the intermediate TRs.

    •   Cable
    •   - Maybemadeof either copperorfiberoptics. Copper cable is rated by “category”. The 568 standard specifies Category 6 (Cat 6) for most voice and data applications.

    •   Horizontal Distribution
    •   - Cat 6 or higher copper cables running from the IDFs to the telecommunications outlets at the work areas. Fiber also could be used for horizontal distribution, especially for long or high-demand routes.Fiberopticsoffer significant advantages over conventional copper and coaxial cables in high performance, light weight, small physical size,andexceptionalbandwidthcapacity.

  •   HIGH-SPEED Internet Access to Guest Rooms
  •   Travelers have come to expect High-Speed Internet Access (HSIA) in hotel guestrooms. Routers, switches, and hubs to support the guestroom broadband service can easily be added or changed by service providers or the hotel itself once the horizontal and backbone distribution is in place.

  •   Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
  •   Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that allows users to place telephone calls using Internet Protocol (IP) connections. This can take the form of a carrier technology, where the carrier converts the voice signal to IP, sends it out, and converts it back to voice at a switch near the recipient; or it can take the form of a Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) technology, where the telephones are terminals on the LAN in the hotel, connected to an IP PBX.

  •   Master Antenna Television/ High Definition Television Requirements
  •   Master Antenna Television (MATV) services are required to deliver broadcast, cable, pay-per-view, and various interactive services to guestrooms.
      We are now recommending RG-11/U for in-building distribution to support HDTV signals. You should install both coax and Cat 6 for MATV support in anewbuildormajorrenovationasaformoffuture-proofing.Installingcoaxonly to support MATV risks limiting future choices for in-room services.
      Coaxial cable plants share many similarities to the structured Cat 6 systems defined in TIA/EIA 568, with backbone and horizontal distribution.
      Loop-through designs are not recommended. Riser or backbone distribution generally calls for RG-11/U coaxial cable. Long runs (more than 500 feet) require .500 (or larger) hardline backbone. Horizontal distribution to the guestrooms will generally utilize RG-6/U cable, or, as noted above, RG-11 for future support of HDTV.

  •   Wireless
  •   Wi-Fi technology establishes a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) where each transmitter can service computers up to 300 feet away. These transmitters (usually called Access Points, or APs) are connected by Cat 5e/6/7 cable in a LAN. They are typically placed in a ceiling or Telecommunication Room (TR), which is then wired back to a router in the equipment room.
      Therefore, a wireless network still requires a structured cabling system, but less horizontal cable. This can be a real advantage in guestrooms, but it requires that guests have Wi-Fi capabilities in their laptops, know how to use them, and accept the perceived security risks.
      A successful wireless data installation depends on properly positioning and tuning the access points.
      Access points generally require 230V AC power, or they can receive power over the data cable (Power Over Ethernet, POE) by adding an inexpensive injector device.
      Other useful wireless data applications in the hotel environment include:
        • Pool and beach bar areas to support handheld POS applications.
        • Resale for special events in locations that are not normally cabled (golf courses, parking lots, etc.).
        • Temporary use during renovations or administrative office relocations.

  Video intercom

  Video intercoms consist of a post outside (the room with diverse technologies) and one or more interior station (telephone-type handset or hands-free).

  Access control and time attendance systems

  •   A central control unit allowing the storage of events and access codes and communicates with the PC via an RS232 serial bus;
  •   Peripheral units to communicate with the CPU bus RS 485;
  •   Access control interfaces to the CPU;
  •   Peripheral reading information:
  •   Keyboard (stand-alone) that allows the introduction of a code of a certain number of digits, and if the system does not include a computer, the keyboard is that it makes scheduling parameters;
  •   Card readers barcode or magnetic (stand-alone / in system), limited to a certain number of readings;
  •   Proximity readers (in the system), the smart-chip that works simply by proximity to a certain distance from the reader. They have unlimited life time, as the reader;

  •   Access control filter must be equipped with auxiliary electric locks, magnetic contact and hydraulic damper (on request). If the time exceeds the position "open" alarm is automatically triggered.

  System elements:
  Elements of a hotel automation system include sensors (such as temperature, daylight, or motion detection), controllers (such as a general-purpose personal computer or a dedicated automation controller) and actuators, such as motorized valves, light switches, motors, and others.
  One or more human-machine interface devices are required, so that the residents of the hotel can interact with the system for monitoring and control; this may be a specialized terminal or, increasingly, may be an application running on a smart phone or tablet computer. Devices may communicate over dedicated wiring, or over a wired network, or wirelessly using one or more protocols.
  A centralized controller can be used, or multiple intelligent devices can be distributed around the hotel.

HVAC

  Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) solutions can include temperature and humidity control, and more commonly in Europe, fresh air, heating and natural cooling. Hotel automation solutions are varied and could include an internet-controlled thermostat, by allowing the owner to control the building heating and air conditioning systems remotely, or it could be linked to windows to allow automated opening and closing to allow hot air out and cool air in to allow for cooling of the thermal mass of the house structure. Many systems are designed to not only provide convenience but to also allow for better energy efficiency.

  Lighting

  Lighting control systems can be used to control hotel hold electric lights. Examples include:

  •   Extinguish all the lights of the hotel at a predetermined time and date range
  •   Use of motion detectors to automatically extinguish the lights in a room after occupants have left and turn on the lights if occupants enter a room
  •   Turn the light on or off with the use of a remote wireless device
  •   Control the brightness of the lights according to the level of ambient light available, or other criteria
  •   Change the ambient color of a room via the lights used or by using RGB LEDs (mood control)
  •   When lighting is combined with a hotel automation system it can be controlled using a smart phone from anywhere there is access to the internet
  •   Change the mood in hospitality spaces, choose the right type of light to highlight merchandise or artwork on display, brand spaces to bring lighting in line with marketing campaigns, or create custom lighting effects and scenes for special events and important clients
  •   Dimming and dynamic methods of maintaining light levels can minimize glare and overlighting while providing sufficient illumination for visual comfort in task areas.

  Natural lighting control involves controlling window shades, LCD shades, draperies and awnings. A major advantage of a lighting control system over stand-alone lighting controls or conventional manual switching is the ability to control individual lights or groups of lights from a single user interface device.
  This ability to control multiple light sources from a user device allows complex lighting scenes to be created. A room may have multiple scenes pre-set, each one created for different activities in the room. A major benefit of lighting control systems is reduced energy consumption.
  Longer lamp life is also gained when dimming and switching off lights when not in use. Wireless lighting control systems provide additional benefits including reduced installation costs and increased flexibility over where switches and sensors may be placed.

  Environmental and emergency sound system

  Environmental and emergency sound system aims emergency announcements in all places where you can find someone and be discharged and ambient sound. Contains music playback equipment, microphone announcements, in power amplifiers designed to cover all speakers. Ceiling speakers are in the majority Box with built-in volume control. The volume can be regal central and local music and just focus for emergency announcements. Any speaker with the volume set to the minimum is the maximum volume in case of emergency announcement. Provision is also an automatic message recording mode. This system type is multizone separate announcement.
